Koufax

"Any Moment Now," by Koufax, from Strugglers (Doghouse Records):

Although Dodgers pitcher Sandy Koufax was the first major-league player to serve up four no-hitters, we're guessing that's not the statistic the members of Koufax were hoping to emulate when they named their band after him. If the MySpace samples are any indication, the Lawrence alums' fourth album, Strugglers (due in September), promises to be anything but a strikeout, with brazen pianos and guitars cutting a wide swath for singer Robert Suchan's swaggering vocals (most of which were penned in his new home: Praha, Czech Republic). Sandy Koufax also pitched a perfect game; maybe that's a more fitting baseball analogy for this band.
